For Neurodiverse Job Seekers

6. How can I highlight my strengths as a neurodiverse individual in my CV?

Focus on showcasing your unique abilities and how they’ve positively impacted your work. For example:
– Highlight specific achievements that demonstrate your creative problem-solving or attention to detail.
– Use action verbs to describe your contributions, such as “developed,” “organised,” or “implemented.”
– Include a personal profile at the top of your CV that emphasises your strengths and career goals.

You can request accommodations to ensure the hiring process is fair and accessible. Examples include:
– Receiving interview questions in advance.
– Extra time for assessments or tasks.
– A quiet or distraction-free environment for interviews.
Employers are legally obligated to provide reasonable accommodations, so don’t hesitate to ask.

Here are some strategies to help you feel more confident:
– Practice common interview questions and use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to structure your answers.
– Use mindfulness techniques like deep breathing or grounding exercises to manage anxiety.
– Write down key points you want to mention to stay focused during the conversation.
– Work with a coach to practice mock interviews and receive constructive feedback.

Some inclusive job platforms that cater to neurodiverse job seekers include:
–  Evenbreak: A platform connecting disabled and neurodiverse individuals with inclusive employers.
findajob.dwp.gov.uk: Government run Job Board that includes an option for finding inclusive employers by using the “disability confident” option.
– Diversity Jobs: A job board promoting diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
